Search Me

I received this song last night. A friend of mine at Beulah Prayer House was inspired to read Psalm 139 during our evening prayer time... as I listened I could hear some of the psalm being sung out, probably by my own heart but also something else -- the Holy Spirit, I think, was encouraging this. It remained with me and I so wrote down the words and music that I heard. This is often how my songs are inspired and I am always amazed at the simplicity of just listening to God -- and the beauty that comes from that.

I am going through a season of soul-searching, really asking God to help me get rid of things in my heart that are wicked, decietful, and harmful -- primarily those things that are well hidden or treasured and that I let only a precious few trusted friends see. There are also things that I can't see them without God's help and those I am concerned about even more. This is the essence of Psalm 139:23-24. There are habits, ways of living, and deceipt within us that we need God's help to see and repent of -- and which we will only see and repent of with His help. These verses also epilogue a Psalm that beautifully states the beauty of the human creation and the fact that God is everywhere with us all the time. I think only a person who truly wants to be righteous can appreciate this and would want God's searching and to get rid of anything that would cloud God's beauty or prevent God from answering prayers and cries for deliverance such as King David offers in this Psalm.

Search me, know me God, search and know my heart.
See if there be any wicked way in me.
Search me, know me God, search and know my heart.
See if there be any hurtful way in me.

Lead me in your everlasting way!
Lead me in your unfailing way!
Lead me in your paths always! Always!

Search me, try me God, search and try my heart.
See if there be any anxious way in me.
Search me, try me God, search and try my heart.
See if there be any blind deceit in me.
